Fuelled by an innate passion for the sport, Kalyan Manoj exhibited an exceptional blend of dedication and talent, catching the discerning eye of his head coach and guiding light, Ashok Velavalapalli, at the esteemed Apex Badminton Academy
Under Ashok's tutelage, Kalyan's prowess ourished, propelling him to clinch the coveted title of district champion and securing his berth in esteemed state and national competitions, thereby etching his mark across the badminton landscape of England. Inspired by the indomitable spirit of his elder brother, Kaushik Manoj, Kalyan's resolve and affection for badminton burgeoned with each passing day. In a pivotal move in August 2019, he embarked on a transformative journey by relocating to the United Kingdom to hone his skills further.
There, under the astute mentorship of Jurgen Van Leeuwen at MKBA, Kalyan Manoj underwent a metamorphosis as a player, meticulously building upon the robust foundation laid back in his homeland. Armed with an unwavering determination and a crystal-clear vision, Kalyan Manoj stands poised to scale unprecedented heights in his badminton voyage, propelled by an insatiable hunger for excellence and an abiding ardor for the game.

Kalyan’s Journey On The England Junior Performance Programme
Kalyan’s Journey on the England Junior Performance Programme Since joining the England Junior Performance Programme’s Transition Squad in the summer of 2024, and following his family’s decision to move to home learning, Kalyan began training at the National Badminton Centre in August 2024.
This important transition was carefully managed in collaboration with his former lead coach, Jurgen Van Leeuwen, and MKBA. Since then, Kalyan has successfully adapted to the demands of training alongside the senior squad while maintaining his academic commitments. Under the guidance of the National Coaching Team and Strength & Conditioning Coach Kathryn Canham, he has continued to build both his technical ability and physical strength.
His progress has already been marked by two major milestones: winning a Gold medal at the 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival and securing his first National Title at the U17 National Championships in Milton Keynes.
Now training under a programme led by Toby Penty and supported by the National Coaching Team, spearheaded by Morten Frost and George Bevan, Kalyan remains fully focused on his ultimate ambition — to represent England at senior level in the years ahead.
